So many things going on!
I sent in my entry to the PNWA Literary Contest last night for the Romance category. It’s the novel length version of what I wrote for All Romance eBooks last fall. I’m also working on a rewrite of a short story I’m shopping around. A publisher asked for revisions, so I’m hoping this will be a winner.
Coming up, I will be a guest editor for the Wily Writers Podcast. Wily Writers is an online zine that also provides audio versions of the stories in addition to the text. Submissions are due at the end of this month, I’ll be reading them in March, and two stories will be chosen for publication in May. AND you get a fat $50. It’s not exactly pro rates, but Ulysses S. Grant has a certain charm.
I commissioned the lovely and talented Wendi Strang-Frost to make a picture of me for me. Why use my real face when I can have an idealized version? Seriously. I’ve got it up on Facebook and Twitter, but haven’t had a chance to get it onto here yet.
In other news, I’ve utterly spaced on linking to reviews I’ve had published on Rise Reviews. Since the first, I’ve posted two reviews:
I have another review coming out on the 21st and I’m trying to beat my way through another book to review it for March. The madness just doesn’t end. I’ve also started another review for Associated Content, which I will hopefully publish… soon…
Alright, now back to running around like a chicken with its head cut off.

Bart Leib emailed today to announce the launch of his new site, Rise Reviews, for which I am a contributor. He has a blog post linking to all 13 reviews that have gone live today. Or you can click straight through to my review of Rigor Amortis.

I’ve been focused most of November on NaNoWriMo and a convention I was attending, so the blog has been neglected. Toss into this the fact that I had a delightful medical emergency has not helped. Now I’m running a malware killer on my laptop, and so I’m taking some time to update here. (Note to self: back up your novel!)
I got a good chunk of writing done on the way up from Portland, but I’m still behind the curve for NaNo progress. My main hope had been to squeeze out the full novel in 30 days, some 60-80K instead of 50K. I’m feeling less optimistic about that. Hopefully I can get more cranked out tonight and have a good stretch tomorrow.
I am doing much better with my outline this year than last year. Many props go to Kij Johnson, whose novel workshoppers this last summer were kind enough to give me the 411 on her advice.
My other quasi news is that I may be writing reviews for another site besides AC. This new site, called Rise Reviews, will focus on books put out by companies that do not pay pro rates. Those publications get short shrift in other review sites, so this site hopes to provide more support for the smaller markets. I’ll post links when there are links to post.

Whew, busy week. I could go on about, “Oh, I’m so busy working and trying to meet some writing deadlines and get my outline done.” But, really, this is the exciting part:
As previously mentioned, ARe is compiling the stories into three anthologies. Volume 1 will feature all the male-on-male stories, Volume 2 will have the steamier romances and volume 3 will have the sweet romances. My story, “Something Fishy,” will be in Volume 3. It looks like there will be a limited release of it around Thanksgiving and a general release later on. I’ll provide more info as I have it!

Despite a strong rally, I did not make it to Round 2. But kudos should go out to Frances Pauli, who received more votes than I. From the conversations I’ve had with her over email she seems quite awesome. I encourage you to vote for her story if you are so inclined. Voting for Round 2 ends on Thursday the 14th.And if you enjoy her writing you can short stories on her site and a novel in ebook format. Roarke, a sci-fi romance, is availbel for purchase through Divine Destines and Amazon.com.
My story is no longer up for reading right now, but I’ve confirmed with the folks at ARe that after the contest all 32 stories will be compiled into ebook anthologies that you can obtain for free from them. I will provide more info when I have it.
I have a few anthologies to which I’m looking to submit. I will probably post samples behind a password if people would like to read them and offer feedback.

Still trailing in the first round of the Just One Bite contest. Feeling less and less hopeful. Still, five days remaining for the voting. Things could turn around.
Submitted my first article to Associated Content and it is pending approval. It and future articles will be available here. For now I’ll also be cross posting articles to this blog as well.
Today I also signed up for NaNoWriMo, and my profile can be found here. I’ve done it before under a different name, but this will be my first year doing it as me. My goal is to write the first novel of the series that my short story kicks off.

Well, things are looking a little sad on the contest front. Trailing by 14 votes. Still have, what? Five and a half days left in the contest, but in terms of trends this is very sobering.
First article for AC is nearly done. I’m going to have Danny review it since he has more experience with AC. I’ll cross post it here when it’s ready.
Nothing else to report this morning world. I’m very tired and have a long day ahead of me.

Today ushered in some exciting news! Scant days after sending off my contest entry, I received word back today that I’m one of 32 finalists. For all I know there were only 34 submissions, but I’ll take my early victories where I can.
I’ve also recently set up an Associated Content account. I’ve been reading a fair chunk of paranormal romance later to steep myself better in the genre. I’m thinking I should write reviews to offset some expenses. Get these books working for me.
Anywho. Voting on the contest starts tomorrow. I’ll post more details as I have them.
